Hi, I’m Alex. I’m a Northern, {early} 30’s lad, and an advocate for work hard and you will be rewarded for it. When I’m not riding the recruitment rollercoaster, I enjoy watching Manchester United, albeit sometimes more so than others, and I’m a sucker for a nice meal out.
I began my recruitment journey quite late in life in comparison to some of my colleagues, but with the assistance of knowledgeable people around me, along with ongoing research into my market, I have built an extensive network which has allowed me to thrive.
I cover the DevOps & Site Reliability Engineering desk here at Source Control, generally working with our high-profile, trading & trading tech clients in the USA, but I also work roles across the UK and Europe.
Although DevOps & SRE are my main areas of expertise, I have a solid understanding of the tech. and tools required to cover other positions that have a crossover, or similar needs. Some examples of this include Trade Support Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers and Cloud Infra. Engineers.

- Gather client requirements - deep understanding of the role, tech. stack, timelines, and key selling points.
- Source candidates - publish job ads, network, and reach out to potential candidates.
- Discuss the role and requirements with candidates - understand their needs and determine fit.
- Vetting process - submit best candidates to client for review and interviews.
- Advise candidates of feedback - maintain contact and provide preparation for interviews.
- Re-centre needs of both client and candidates.
- Assist with offer guidance - balance needs and negotiate to meet expectations.
The client had an urgent need to hire a Developer for an upcoming project. The position was based in Czech Republic, and required a very specific toolset & working history. The ideal candidate needed to be an Engineer, but with a strong Java Development background, and experience working with several other particular tools.
Due to the time sensitivity of this hire, much of my daily focus surrounded this position. It required ongoing commitment and maintaining an in-depth understanding of the role, client needs, and what their ideal candidate looked like. One of my candidates was actually offered this role within a couple of days of interviewing, but decided he did not wish to proceed, after receiving multiple other offers. This meant that the client was left without the engineer that they needed, and time continuing to tick.
After numerous assessments and calls with more potential suitors, I managed to find the perfect candidate for the client. They were excited by the prospect of working on the upcoming project, and I also secured them a significant pay rise from their existing position as well as fully remote working, after a negotiation with my client. Further to this, I secured this hire for my client, below budget, and with a start date sooner than expected.
